CONCEPT

Growing desertification accelerates climate change, erodes topsoil, causes famine and drought, and is a major contributor to armed conflicts. All reasons for people to flee. An aggressive desertification reversal programme in Europe can both solve refugee’s immediate needs and help prevent future migration by stabilizing other land. Refugees (and unemployed European citizens) can apply to be part of this programme to revive degraded rural regions in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Host nations benefit by reducing population in cities, decreasing unemployment and improving unproductive land. Refugees benefit by acquiring housing, employment and the skills to rebuild and stabilize their own land, once they return.
