APPROACH: Products and Spaces, Systems
Dronecoria is an automatic reforestation project that uses customized DIY drones to disperse seeds in clay balls. Unlike expensive traditional aerial seeding techniques, Dronecoria relies on alternative mechanisms borrowed from cybernetics, robotics, permaculture and digital manufacturing. Instead of creating a planting service, Dronecoria proposes an open source model to allow thousands of people to plant thousands of trees. The process is divided in two phases: a mapping part searching the best space for each seed, and the actual seeding. The project demonstrates the potential impact of interaction between ecologies and robotic systems on critical environments.
